The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate and recovered a locally made revolver and other exhibits during an intelligence-led operation in Akure.
The suspects, identified as 35-year-old Isreal Abakah and 37-year-old Gbene Emmanuel, were arrested on September 27, 2026, by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the command.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement, saying the suspects were apprehended at different locations within the Akure metropolis following credible intelligence.
Jimoh said operatives subsequently raided the suspected hideout of the syndicate in the Olufoam area of Akure, where they recovered a locally made revolver capable of holding four rounds of ammunition.
Other items recovered from the hideout included suspected criminal charms, a laptop, motorcycle mirrors and a number plate.
The police spokesman said preliminary investigation indicated that the suspects were allegedly members of an armed robbery syndicate suspected of operating in Akure and surrounding communities.
He added that the suspects had allegedly confessed to participating in several robbery operations within Akure metropolis and its environs.
Jimoh said the alleged confessions and recovered exhibits were being subjected to further investigation to establish the extent of the suspects’ activities and support their prosecution.
According to him, efforts were ongoing to arrest other suspected members of the syndicate who are still at large, while investigators are also working to determine communities and individuals who may have been affected by the group’s alleged activities.
The Commissioner of Police commended the VCRU operatives for their professionalism and response to the intelligence that led to the arrests.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring that suspects found culpable are brought to justice in accordance with the law.
The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements and activities to the nearest police station or through established communication channels.
The command assured residents that it would continue its intelligence-led operations and other proactive measures to protect lives and property across Ondo State.
