Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has dismissed reports suggesting that he is planning to defect from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tambuwal, through his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Prince Daniel, described the reports as false and baseless.
The clarification was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the AWT Media Office, following the circulation of photographs and video clips on social media purporting to show the former governor engaging in discussions that could lead to his defection to the APC.
His media office explained that Tambuwal’s engagements with politicians across party lines should not be interpreted as an indication that he intends to leave the ADC.
It said the former governor has maintained relationships with political stakeholders regardless of their party affiliations as part of his broader political engagements.
According to the statement, none of the materials circulating online provided evidence that Tambuwal was negotiating to join the ruling party.
“Senator Tambuwal remains firmly committed to the ADC,” the media office said.
The former governor was also said to be concentrating on strengthening the ADC, expanding political alliances and mobilising support ahead of the 2027 elections.
His media team urged Nigerians to focus on pressing national issues, including economic hardship, insecurity and governance, rather than relying on unverified claims about political movements.
Tambuwal, according to the statement, remains committed to democratic principles, accountable leadership and improving the welfare of Nigerians.
The media office further appealed to journalists, political commentators and social media users to verify reports concerning the senator with his representatives before publishing or sharing them.
It warned that political speculation and social media materials should not be treated as established facts without proper verification.
