Two adult men sustained second- and third-degree burns after a tanker laden with 33,000 litres of diesel caught fire at Otedola Bridge in Lagos.
The victims were rescued and evacuated for further medical treatment following a coordinated emergency response by state and federal agencies.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) disclosed this in a statement by its Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu.
Oke-Osanyintolu said emergency responders successfully extinguished the fire through a joint operation involving the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASEMA Response Team, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and Lagos State Ambulance Service.
According to him, the injured men received immediate medical attention at the scene before being transported for further treatment.
The tanker had fallen along the Otedola Bridge corridor while carrying the diesel, triggering the fire and temporarily affecting traffic movement in the area.
LASEMA said dampening-down operations were about 80 per cent complete at the time of filing the report, with plans underway to recover and remove the fallen tanker after the operation.
Following the successful containment of the fire, traffic flow along the corridor has been restored.
The agency, however, advised motorists using the route to exercise caution, maintain safe speeds and cooperate with traffic officials deployed to manage movement around the affected area.
The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property through rapid emergency response and coordination among relevant agencies.
