The Nigeria Agriculture Cooperative Organisation (NACO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening farmers’ access to subsidised agricultural inputs, government-backed financing and other intervention programmes through cooperative societies.
The agreement was signed in Abuja on Thursday, September 17, 2026, as part of efforts to position agricultural cooperatives as a channel through which farmers can benefit from Federal Government programmes and support.
Under the proposed arrangement, farmers are expected to have improved access to agricultural inputs and equipment, including solar-powered water pumping machines, tricycle power tillers and other farm implements.
The initiative is also expected to facilitate farmers’ access to Federal Government loans and other agricultural interventions through cooperative structures.
The development comes amid ongoing Federal Government efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s cooperative sector and improve access to finance and government interventions.
The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has identified cooperative financing, digitalisation and stronger access to government support as key areas of its cooperative-sector reform programme.
NACO Pays Courtesy Visit to Federal Department of Cooperatives
As part of its activities in Abuja, the NACO executive also paid a courtesy visit to the Federal Department of Cooperatives at the fourth floor of NAIC House, Abuja, on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
The delegation used the visit to introduce NACO, its leadership and activities to the newly appointed Federal Director of Cooperatives, Dr. Mohammed Bashir Abdulkadir.
Dr. Abdulkadir is the Federal Director of Cooperatives under the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. His role and involvement in ongoing Federal Government cooperative-sector reforms have also been publicly documented.
During the meeting, the NACO delegation briefed the Federal Director on the organisation’s activities and its efforts to promote the interests and welfare of farmers through cooperative development.
Dr. Abdulkadir welcomed the NACO delegation and expressed his readiness to work with the organisation in advancing the cooperative movement and supporting initiatives that would benefit farmers.
He also prayed for God’s guidance, support and success for the organisation as it carries out its activities.
The NACO delegation comprised the National President, Ibrahim Anwar; National Secretary, Samuel Ali; and National Treasurer, Olutunji Abogunrin.
The visit further highlighted the importance of collaboration between farmers’ cooperative organisations and the Federal Department of Cooperatives in improving access to financing, agricultural inputs and other government interventions.
The Federal Government has in recent months intensified reforms in the cooperative sector, including initiatives focused on digital registration, verification, financial inclusion and improved access to government support.
