The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is set to expand its operational capacity following the delivery of five new helicopters acquired as part of ongoing efforts to modernise the country’s airpower.
The aircraft comprise three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters and two H-125 helicopters, according to a statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.
The three AW-109 Trekker B helicopters were received in Lagos on September 15, 2026, as part of a batch of 10 platforms recently acquired by the Federal Government.
The remaining seven AW-109 helicopters are expected to be delivered before the end of 2026.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, said the latest delivery would increase the availability of operational platforms and strengthen the NAF’s ability to respond to security challenges across multiple theatres.
Aneke described the development as another milestone in the Federal Government’s ongoing investment in the modernisation and re-equipment of the Air Force.
He expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for what he described as his continued confidence in and commitment to the Nigerian Air Force.
The newly delivered helicopters are expected to undergo post-delivery assembly and other necessary preparations before their formal induction and deployment for operations.
The latest acquisition forms part of broader efforts by the Federal Government and the Nigerian Armed Forces to improve operational capabilities through the procurement of modern military platforms and equipment.
