The Nigeria Police Force has commenced efforts to track down those behind a fake document claiming that training had begun for 50,000 newly recruited police constables.
The Force said the document, which has been circulating on social media, was neither issued nor authorised by the Nigeria Police Force.
The fake notice purportedly stated that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, had directed the commencement of training for newly recruited constables.
It also allegedly bore the name and designation of the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, giving the impression that it was an official police communication.
However, Iniedu, in a statement on Friday, disowned the document and described its contents as false.
“The document is false and was neither issued nor authorised by the Nigeria Police Force,” the statement said.
The Force urged members of the public, particularly police recruitment candidates, to disregard the notice and avoid acting on unverified information circulating online.
It advised candidates to obtain recruitment updates only through the official police recruitment portal and verified communication channels of the Nigeria Police Force.
The police said it was currently working to identify the individuals responsible for generating and distributing the fraudulent document.
The Force warned that anyone found responsible would face appropriate legal action.
The development has prompted the police to reiterate the need for recruitment candidates to verify official announcements before relying on information shared through social media platforms.
