The Federal Government has commenced efforts to attract Danish investment, technology and expertise into Nigeria’s maritime and blue economy sector.
The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, made the call during a bilateral meeting with Denmark’s Minister for Business and Competitiveness, Martin Lidegaard, in Copenhagen.
Oyetola urged Danish investors and businesses to explore the vast opportunities available in Nigeria’s marine and blue economy and establish partnerships that could accelerate the development of the sector.
According to a statement by his Special Adviser, Bolaji Akinola, the minister said Nigeria had moved beyond establishing the institutional framework for the Marine and Blue Economy.
He said the country had entered a new phase focused on project development, investment mobilisation, improved sector performance and capacity building.
Oyetola stressed the need for foreign investment, technology and technical expertise to support the development of viable projects across Nigeria’s maritime sector.
Lidegaard welcomed the prospect of deeper cooperation with Nigeria, stressing the importance of practical partnerships involving businesses, government agencies, technology providers and knowledge institutions.
The Danish minister said stronger collaboration between both countries could create opportunities for businesses and other stakeholders in the maritime and blue economy sectors.
The meeting formed part of the activities of the Nigerian Ministerial Delegation to Denmark on Maritime and the Blue Economy.
The Federal Government is seeking to leverage Denmark’s expertise and investment capacity as part of broader efforts to unlock the economic potential of Nigeria’s maritime sector.
