Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered a major overhaul of activities at motor parks across the state following the killing of a transport union figure in Ile-Ife.
The governor directed the immediate suspension of activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state after Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Ajagungbade Emir, was shot dead on Sunday.
Oyeyemi was reportedly killed by suspected hoodlums during a clash between rival groups over control of a garage in Ile-Ife.
Reacting to the incident, Adeleke directed the Commissioner of Police to ensure that all persons linked to the killing are arrested and prosecuted.
He also ordered the immediate evacuation of all warring factions from motor parks across the state, directing security agencies to restore peace and prevent further violence.
The governor said the government would reintroduce a Park Management System as part of efforts to restore order and regulate activities at motor parks.
According to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke will issue an Executive Order to provide legal backing for the new management arrangement.
The latest measures are aimed at preventing further clashes over control of motor parks and ensuring that transport activities are conducted under a more regulated system across Osun State.
