ABEOKUTA — No fewer than nine persons have lost their lives in a fatal road traffic crash involving a commercial bus and a Sino truck along the Ijebu-Ode–Ore route in Ogun State.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, said the crash occurred at about 4:55 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2026, around the Bethel area within the Ijebu-Ode Unit Command.
According to a statement signed by the Sector Public Education Officer, Afolabi Odunsi, the vehicles involved were a white Toyota Hiace commercial bus, registration number 14B-299DT, belonging to Delta Line, and a white Sino truck, registration number AAB162XD, operated by Bill Gas Solution Ltd.
The FRSC disclosed that nine people, comprising three males and six females, were involved in the crash, with all the victims losing their lives in the incident.
The crash reportedly occurred while it was raining and the road pavement was wet. Preliminary investigation by the FRSC identified speed violation (SPV) as the probable cause of the crash.
The rescue team arrived at the scene at about 4:58 p.m., just three minutes after the crash was reported. The deceased victims were evacuated and deposited at the General Hospital Morgue, Ijebu-Ode, while the vehicles were towed to Ilese Police Station by the Ilese Police Motor Traffic Division.
The Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, expressed condolences to the families of the victims and urged motorists, particularly commercial vehicle operators, to exercise maximum caution while driving, especially during rainfall. He advised motorists to obey speed limits, maintain safe following distances and avoid dangerous driving practices.
Ogunjobi further warned that speeding on wet roads significantly increases the risk of crashes due to reduced tyre grip and visibility, urging all road users to make safety their priority at all times.
