President Bola Tinubu has extended the implementation of Nigeria’s 2025 Appropriation Act to the end of 2026, following his assent to an amendment bill passed by the National Assembly.
The President signed the Appropriation (Amendment) (No. 4) Bill, 2025, on Wednesday, extending the deadline for implementing the budget from September 30 to December 31, 2026.
The Senate and House of Representatives had approved the amendment on Tuesday, September 29, before transmitting it to the President for assent.
In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the extension is intended to give Ministries, Departments and Agencies additional time to complete ongoing capital projects.
The Presidency said the move would also allow previously approved funds to be fully utilised while avoiding disruptions to critical government programmes.
Tinubu commended the National Assembly for its prompt consideration of the amendment, describing the development as an indication of continued cooperation between the Executive and Legislative arms of government.
With the President’s assent, the Federal Government can now continue implementing the 2025 budget until December 31, 2026, giving MDAs an additional three months beyond the previous deadline to execute projects and utilise appropriated funds.
