Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has held a security meeting with heads of various security agencies as the state prepares for increased movements and activities in the coming months.
The meeting, held on Tuesday at the State House, Marina, focused on ongoing security operations across the state and measures to further strengthen the security architecture ahead of the end-of-year period.
Sanwo-Olu said his administration would continue to take measures to protect residents and visitors and prevent criminal activities across the state.
“We will not relent on our efforts to ensure that criminals don’t find a place for their evil activities in our state,” the governor said.
The meeting comes as Lagos prepares for a period expected to witness increased human and vehicular movement, with various social, religious and cultural events scheduled to take place across the state.
Among those who attended were the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai; Commander, 9 Brigade, Ikeja, Brig. Gen. A.O. Owolabi; Commander, NNS Beecroft, Commodore A. Adams-Aliu; Commander, 651 Base Services Group, Ikeja, Air Commodore M.A. Imam; and Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Dr Ayodele Ogunsan.
Also in attendance were the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Tayo Ayinde; Secretary to the State Government, Abimbola Hundeyin; and Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of the State, Lawal Pedro.
The security discussions also come ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s expected return to Lagos on Tuesday for activities connected with Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
Lagos is also expected to host a range of Yuletide, religious and cultural events that could attract large numbers of residents and visitors.
Political activities are equally expected to increase ahead of the 2027 general elections. According to the timetable of the Independent National Electoral Commission, campaigns for the governorship and State House of Assembly elections are scheduled to begin on September 9, 2026, while campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections commenced on August 19.
Against this backdrop, the meeting provided an opportunity for the state government and security agencies to review preparations for maintaining public safety amid increased activities across Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property and sustaining security across the state.
