Nigeria’s Flamingos secured another victory at the WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup after defeating Ghana’s Black Maidens 4-2 on Friday night.
The Nigerian side, coached by Akeem Busari, established a two-goal lead before the break, with Oluwakemi Adegbuyi and captain Chidi Harmony finding the net.
Ghana were handed a lifeline shortly after the hour mark when Nigeria were reduced to 10 players following Elizabeth Adesuyi’s dismissal one minute before the 60th minute.
The Black Maidens quickly capitalised, with Seidatu Wahab pulling a goal back four minutes after the red card.
However, the Flamingos maintained their composure and restored their two-goal advantage when Mary Dunstan took advantage of an error in the Ghanaian defence to make it 3-1.
Kaosarat Akanji extended Nigeria’s lead three minutes from full time, putting the Flamingos in a commanding position.
Ghana scored again through Gloria Ameaa in the 90th minute, but the late effort could not prevent Nigeria from securing a 4-2 victory.
The result gives the Flamingos their second win of the competition.
