Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has met with the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, in Abuja as the state intensifies efforts to restore security and facilitate the return of residents displaced by insurgency.
Zulum held the meeting with the Army chief on Tuesday at the Army Headquarters, with the discussions reportedly centred on security operations and efforts to restore normalcy in affected communities.
The meeting was held behind closed doors, and the details of the discussions were not immediately disclosed.
The engagement comes as security agencies continue operations against Boko Haram and ISWAP elements in parts of Borno State.
For the state government, improved security remains a key requirement for enabling displaced residents to return to their communities and for reopening areas affected by years of terrorist attacks.
The restoration of normalcy would also pave the way for the resumption of economic and social activities in communities where insecurity has disrupted livelihoods.
Zulum was accompanied to the meeting by the Senator representing Borno South, Mohammed Ali Ndume; member representing Kukawa, Mobbar, Guzamala and Abadam Federal Constituency, Malam Gana Bukar Kareto; Commissioner for Finance, Lawan Umar Dalorima; and Commissioner for Planning and Economic Development, Maina Yaumi.
The meeting formed part of ongoing consultations between the Borno State Government and military authorities on security operations and measures aimed at stabilising communities across the state.
