Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has charged newly sworn-in commissioners to deliver measurable results and accelerate the implementation of government programmes as his administration enters its final phase.
Abiodun gave the charge on Monday during the swearing-in of Olayemi Sanusi and Adenike Ademokun at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The governor urged the commissioners to approach their new responsibilities with discipline, integrity and a strong commitment to the welfare of residents, stressing that public office must be defined by service rather than personal interests or political affiliations.
He said the appointees must ensure that government policies and projects translate into tangible benefits for the people, adding that their performance would be judged by the problems they solve and the opportunities they create.
Abiodun also called on the commissioners to familiarise themselves with the administration’s development priorities, evaluate ongoing projects and introduce practical ideas that would improve governance and service delivery.
He emphasised the importance of continuity in government, directing them to preserve institutional knowledge, maintain accurate records and ensure that ongoing programmes were completed successfully.
The governor further urged the appointees to remain accessible to the public, listen to residents’ concerns and exercise prudence in the management of public resources.
According to him, effective governance requires teamwork, respect for the professionalism of the civil service and strong collaboration among ministries, departments and agencies.
Abiodun said members of the State Executive Council must consolidate the administration’s achievements while addressing outstanding challenges in the interest of a stronger and more prosperous Ogun State.
Describing the remaining months of his administration as its final lap, he said the period required urgency, political maturity, discipline and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
“We are now in the final lap of this administration. This period demands urgency, discipline, political maturity and a steadfast pursuit of excellence,” he said.
The governor noted that the new commissioners were joining the administration at a critical time when existing achievements needed to be sustained and outstanding responsibilities fulfilled.
He added that the legacy of the administration would ultimately depend on the impact of its decisions and the improvements made in the lives of residents.
“History will assess our stewardship through the consequences of our decisions and the difference our service has made in the lives of the people,” Abiodun said.
Responding on behalf of the new commissioners, Ademokun expressed appreciation to the governor for the confidence reposed in them.
She assured him that they would justify their appointments by supporting the administration’s development agenda and working to improve the welfare of residents across the state.
