Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has tied his continued stay in office to President Bola Tinubu’s performance in the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike made the declaration while addressing leaders and members of the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association in Abuja, according to a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.
The minister said he would resign from his position if Tinubu fails to win the presidential election in both the FCT and Rivers State.
Wike specifically said he would announce his resignation on January 17, 2027, a day after the election, if the President loses in the two territories.
“If I cannot deliver where I work, then I’m not worthy to be here,” Wike said.
He argued that his political responsibility in the FCT should be measured by his ability to deliver electoral support for the President.
Wike also disclosed that a multi-party coalition was being organised in the FCT ahead of the election, with the aim of securing victory for candidates supported by the coalition across different elective positions.
He declared his support for Tinubu’s re-election bid and endorsed candidates for the Senate and House of Representatives during the engagement.
“For the Presidency, it is Bola Ahmed Tinubu!” Wike said, while also identifying Philip Aduda as the coalition’s preferred candidate for the Senate.
The minister said the coalition was working across political parties in the FCT and described the gathering as a final affirmation of the agreement among its supporters.
Wike’s comments come ahead of the 2027 general elections, as political parties and their allies intensify mobilisation and coalition-building activities across the country.
