The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, has proposed expanded road and rail transport networks as part of plans to strengthen industrial activities and improve movement across the state if elected in 2027.
Adeola unveiled the proposal on Friday, September 25, 2026, during his engagement with journalists at the Ogun State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Iwe Iroyin Press Centre, Abeokuta.
He said Ogun’s location, bordering Lagos and the Republic of Benin and having access to the Atlantic coastline, presented opportunities for the state to develop into an export and logistics hub.
The APC candidate proposed an Ogun State Bus Mass Transit Programme covering major routes, including the Abeokuta-Sango-Ota-Sagamu corridor, with organised terminals.
He also said his administration would explore collaboration with the Nigerian Railway Corporation to establish commuter rail connections linking Abeokuta with Lagos and major industrial corridors.
Adeola further proposed the development of free trade zones, dry ports and Economic Development Clusters, alongside improved electricity supply to industrial areas and surrounding communities.
On the transport sector, he unveiled OgunRide, a proposed state-backed platform for commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators as well as drivers. According to him, the initiative would provide access to health insurance, vehicle financing and cooperative support while helping to formalise the sector.
Beyond transportation, Adeola said his broader economic agenda would target the creation of more than 500,000 jobs and the reduction of youth unemployment by 40 per cent.
He proposed training 100,000 young people in digital skills by 2031 and establishing a Youth Enterprise Hub in Abeokuta within six months of assuming office, with satellite centres across the state.
The candidate also identified agriculture, manufacturing, solid minerals, oil and gas, tourism, technology and the creative industries as areas with potential for economic expansion and employment.
In agriculture, he proposed mechanisation, processing hubs, farmer financing and climate-smart farming, alongside a state-supported produce market aimed at reducing post-harvest losses.
Adeola also proposed a Solid Minerals Development Company to facilitate licensing and joint ventures, while promising support for artisanal miners to enter the formal sector.
He said opportunities linked to oil exploration in Ogun Waterside and Tongeji Island would require transparent management of future revenues and development of host communities.
On tourism, the APC candidate proposed investments in historic sites, festivals, Adire, film, fashion, music and sports tourism, as well as a digital platform to promote destinations and events across Ogun.
Adeola said the proposals formed part of a nine-pillar agenda covering the economy, education, healthcare, security, infrastructure, environmental sustainability and social welfare.
He said his proposed administration would use measurable targets and regular reporting to track the implementation of its programmes, while urging journalists to scrutinise the proposals and hold him accountable for commitments made during the campaign.
