Ogun State indigenes resident in Enugu State have pledged to mobilise support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 governorship election, citing concerns over infrastructure, tourism and economic development in the state.
The group made the commitment on Friday when it hosted the PDP Deputy Governorship Candidate, Hajia Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, who was in Enugu for the ongoing 22nd All Nigeria Editors Conference.
Speaking at the reception, Chairman of the group, Dr Lekan Oladapo, said members had reviewed the manifesto of the PDP governorship candidate, Oladipupo Adebutu, and were convinced that the ticket could provide what he described as better governance for Ogun State.
Oladapo said Ogun had produced notable figures and professionals but argued that the state had yet to fully harness its potential, particularly in infrastructure, tourism and the development of local industries.
He said ancient towns and cultural sites across the state could be developed into major tourism attractions, while the herbal products sector could also be supported to access international markets and generate foreign exchange.
According to him, Ogun indigenes living outside the state were increasingly interested in participating in the 2027 election and contributing to decisions affecting the future of their home state.
He said some members of the group had transferred their voter cards or registered afresh in Ogun State, adding that the group would continue to sensitise and mobilise residents across different communities.
Oladapo also expressed confidence in Kolapo’s ability to contribute to the PDP ticket, describing her as a daughter of the state whose background and relationship with the people would add value to the party’s campaign.
Responding, Kolapo thanked the group for the reception and pledged that the PDP would work towards implementing the promises made during its campaign if elected.
She highlighted the Adebutu family’s philanthropic activities and said the party’s proposed administration would focus on translating its policies into tangible development.
Kolapo also appealed to the group to sustain its mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 elections.
The PDP deputy governorship candidate said she would convey the group’s message to Adebutu, describing the reception as unexpected and significant.
