A motorcyclist was killed in a road crash involving a sand-laden tipper truck at Ilasa Bus Stop, along the Mile 2-bound route in Lagos State.
The incident occurred at about 3:18 p.m. on Thursday, according to the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.
Oke-Osanyintolu said LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team stationed at Cappa was dispatched to the scene following a distress call and arrived about 15 minutes later.
Preliminary findings by emergency responders indicated that the tipper driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle before it collided with the motorcycle from behind.
The impact left an adult male passenger on the motorcycle with fatal injuries.
LASEMA responders, alongside paramedics from the Lagos Response Unit, officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and police officers, secured the scene and carried out emergency operations.
The deceased’s remains were recovered and placed in a body bag before being released to family members who were present.
The two vehicles involved were subsequently removed from the road and taken to Ilasamaja Police Station for further investigation.
LASEMA said traffic flow was restored after the emergency operation was completed.
Oke-Osanyintolu expressed condolences to the victim’s family and urged motorists, particularly operators of articulated vehicles, to exercise greater caution and adhere to traffic regulations to reduce road crashes and prevent further loss of lives.
