The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested about 300 persons during raids on suspected criminal hideouts, flashpoints, shanties and uncompleted buildings across the Territory.
The operation was carried out as part of efforts to disrupt criminal activities and improve the safety of residents in the nation’s capital.
According to a statement by the Command, police operatives recovered knives, a toy gun, cannabis and other illicit drugs during the raids.
The Command said those arrested are being subjected to screening and profiling, adding that anyone found to have committed an offence would be charged to court.
It noted that persons cleared after the screening process would be released.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, also warned residents against illicit drug abuse, noting that substance abuse could impair judgment and contribute to criminal behaviour.
Sanusi directed officers participating in the operations to maintain professionalism and ensure that their activities remain within the law.
He warned personnel against extortion, intimidation and harassment of residents during the enforcement exercise.
The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible, timely information about suspicious activities and suspected criminal hideouts to the police.
It said such information would assist security agencies in their efforts to prevent crime and enhance safety across the Federal Capital Territory.
