Members of the Phone Sellers Association at Tarmac, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, have appealed to the Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, to provide them with a shopping complex, a bus and support for their end-of-year celebration.
The association made the requests on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, when Senator Salisu and his entourage visited the phone sellers at Tarmac as part of his engagement with constituents and business groups in the senatorial district.
Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the association appreciated Salisu for his support over the years and appealed to him to construct a shopping complex at Tarmac where members could conveniently operate their businesses.
The chairman also requested a bus for the association and asked the senator to attend their end-of-year celebration scheduled for December 17, where they want him to serve as the patron.
Responding to the requests, Salisu said he had taken note of the demands for the shopping complex and bus, promising to get back to the association with feedback as soon as possible. He also accepted the invitation to the December 17 celebration, assuring the members that he would attend with his supporters and political associates.
Beyond the requests, the senator announced plans to provide solar-powered street lights across the Tarmac area before the association’s end-of-year celebration.
Salisu said the lighting project was aimed at making the business environment brighter and safer at night, thereby creating better conditions for commercial activities.
He stressed that the solar lights would cover the entire Tarmac, regardless of its size, with the objective of making the area as bright at night as it is during the day. He also disclosed plans to extend a similar intervention to the Ibara Police Station.
The senator further promised to train between 50 and 100 members of the association in relevant digital and ICT skills before December 17.
According to him, the training would help the phone sellers improve their businesses and adapt to the growing importance of technology and digital financial platforms such as OPay, Moniepoint and online banking services.
Salisu said he had previously trained several young people in ICT and distributed laptops to beneficiaries, noting that some of the beneficiaries had acquired skills, secured employment and become self-reliant.
He commended the phone sellers for engaging in legitimate businesses and contributing to the economic development of Ogun State, urging them to continue to embrace opportunities that would improve their livelihoods.
Salisu also pledged to engage the APC governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, on the needs of the association.
He said he would inform Yayi that the association had a large voting population and was contributing meaningfully to the development of the state, adding that he would explore the possibility of bringing the governorship candidate to the association’s premises to interact directly with members and understand their concerns.
