The Peace Initiative Committee (PIC), Ogun Central, has called on residents of the senatorial district and the general public to embrace dialogue, tolerance, forgiveness and peaceful coexistence as part of efforts to promote sustainable peace in society.
The Chairman of the Peace Initiative Committee (PIC), Ogun Central, Comrade Akeem Abioro, made the call in a statement issued to commemorate the 2026 International Day of Peace, observed on September 21, with the theme, “Act Now for Peace.”
Abioro said peace goes beyond the absence of conflict, stressing that it involves understanding, mutual respect, tolerance, justice and the willingness of people to live together despite their differences.
The PIC Chairman noted that Ogun Central is home to people from different backgrounds, communities, beliefs, professions and interests, urging residents to see the diversity of the senatorial district as a strength rather than a source of division.
According to him, the Peace Initiative Committee remains committed to promoting dialogue, reconciliation, peaceful coexistence and conflict prevention among individuals, groups, communities and institutions across Ogun Central.
Abioro called on youths, community leaders, religious leaders, traditional rulers, political actors, organisations and residents to choose dialogue over violence, forgiveness over hatred, unity over division and peace over conflict.
He also urged residents to be mindful of their words and actions, particularly on social media, noting that irresponsible communication could create tension and conflict, while messages of understanding could help restore peace.
“A single word can create conflict, while a word of understanding can restore peace. Let us therefore use our voices to promote peace, not provoke division,” Abioro said.
The PIC Chairman stressed that peace begins with individuals, urging residents to contribute to a peaceful environment in their homes, workplaces, schools, communities and places of worship.
He further called for collective efforts to make Ogun Central a place where everyone can live, work, worship and pursue their aspirations in an atmosphere of peace, safety and mutual respect.
Abioro also encouraged residents to become Peace Ambassadors in their respective communities and actively promote peaceful relationships, tolerance and conflict prevention.
The PIC Chairman reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to building a peaceful and united Ogun Central, urging residents to work together to make peace a way of life.
He wished residents a peaceful International Day of Peace and called on all stakeholders to contribute their quota towards fostering unity, understanding and peaceful coexistence across Ogun Central.
