Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has urged Nigerians to remain committed to the country and have renewed confidence in its future as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
Tajudeen made the call in a statement issued by the spokesman of the House, Akin Rotimi, to commemorate the anniversary.
The Speaker described Nigeria’s 66 years of independence as both a legacy inherited by the present generation and a responsibility that must be preserved for those coming after them.
He called on Nigerians at home and abroad to renew their faith in the country and the opportunities ahead, stressing the need for collective commitment to national development.
Tajudeen said the House of Representatives would continue to focus on its constitutional responsibilities of legislation, oversight and representation.
According to him, the House will also work towards strengthening democratic institutions, improving the welfare and security of citizens and promoting a democracy capable of earning and sustaining public trust.
The Speaker said the anniversary provides an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the country’s journey while recommitting themselves to building a stronger and more prosperous nation.
