The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Gombe State Command, has contained a fire outbreak at the staff quarters of the Gombe Media Corporation, preventing the blaze from spreading to adjoining buildings and saving property estimated at N20 million.
The fire occurred on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at a residential building within the corporation’s staff quarters.
The FFS Public Relations Officer in Gombe State, ASF Muazu-Bashir Musa, said the command received a distress call at 4:06pm and immediately mobilised firefighters to the scene.
According to him, an FFS 215 Multipurpose Water Tender was dispatched from the ATM Fire Operation Base at 4:10pm and arrived at the premises about 15 minutes later.
He said firefighters immediately began containment efforts, successfully preventing the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
The cause of the incident was suspected to be an electrical fault.
The FFS said property estimated at N6 million was destroyed, while assets worth about N20 million were saved from the fire.
No casualty was recorded.
The operation was led by DSF Ali Kidams, with IF Adamu Babayo serving as the driver, alongside other personnel.
The response team also received support from firefighters attached to the FFS 256 Mega Park Fire Station, the Gombe State Fire Service and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Following the successful operation, firefighters inspected the premises to ensure that no further danger remained before leaving the scene at 5:28pm.
The FFS commended the individuals who promptly alerted the command, saying the early distress call contributed to the quick response and containment of the fire.
The command urged residents to report fire incidents immediately and advised property owners to regularly inspect electrical installations and ensure that maintenance work is carried out by qualified professionals.
