The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has formally admitted 68 legal practitioners into the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
The new Senior Advocates took their oath during the 2026/2027 Legal Year ceremony, following their earlier approval by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC).
The elevation was approved at the committee’s 174th plenary session, held about three months ago under the chairmanship of Justice Kekere-Ekun.
According to a statement by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and Secretary of the LPPC, Kabir Eniola, the new SANs comprise 67 advocates and one academic.
The academic recipient, Professor Nnamdi Onyeka Obiaraeri, was honoured for his contributions to legal scholarship.
Obiaraeri is the only academic among the 68 recipients elevated to the rank this year.
The ceremony marked the formal commencement of the new legal year and the induction of the latest members into the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
