Kufre Udosen, Special Adviser to Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno on Political and Social Orientation, has appealed a Magistrate Court ruling ordering him to vacate a one-room store and pay ₦540,000 in outstanding rent.
Udosen described the judgment as erroneous, claiming he was unaware of the notice concerning the proceedings.
The dispute involves a store located at No. 245 Ibekwe Road, Ikot Abasi, owned by Ime Archibong Akpan.
In its judgment delivered on August 17, 2026, Chief Magistrate Nsikak Ibanga ordered Udosen to surrender the property and settle the outstanding rent on or before October 9, 2026.
The court also directed him to pay ₦10,000 in costs and an additional ₦5,000 monthly from October 2025 until he hands over possession of the premises.
According to the court proceedings, Udosen’s one-year tenancy expired in December 2015, but he allegedly neither renewed the agreement nor vacated the property despite repeated appeals from the landlord.
Akpan subsequently instituted legal proceedings to recover possession of the store and outstanding rent.
The court noted that Udosen had failed to appear, enter a plea or present a defence throughout the proceedings.
It further ordered that the court bailiff could force open the premises if the defendant failed to comply with the directive to surrender the property.
However, Udosen has challenged the ruling through an appeal, contesting the decision of the Magistrate Court.
