Security operatives have arrested a 33-year-old man, Monsuru Musa, for allegedly impersonating his father during a promotion examination organised for employees of the Federal Capital Territory Civil Service.
Monsuru was reportedly caught on Wednesday, the third day of the examination, at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Abuja, where the exercise was being conducted.
The examination was organised by the FCT Civil Service Commission, while security personnel were deployed to monitor the process following directives from the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
According to a statement by the minister’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, the suspect allegedly admitted during questioning that he was writing the examination on behalf of his father, Musa Mohammed, an employee of the FCT Fire Service.
Monsuru reportedly told security operatives that his father was ill but was also at the university premises where the examination was taking place.
He was said to have explained that his father asked him to sit for the promotion examination on his behalf.
During questioning, Monsuru reportedly gave his father’s age as between 67 and 68 years.
However, Musa Mohammed told authorities that he would turn 60 in February 2027.
Further checks reportedly showed that Mohammed completed his primary education in 1977 and secondary education in 1982.
Following the development, the father and son were handed over to the police for further investigation after they had made statements to operatives of the State Security Service.
The incident comes amid heightened monitoring of the FCT Civil Service promotion examination, with authorities taking measures to prevent impersonation and other forms of examination malpractice.
