The Zamfara State Government has announced plans to strengthen surveillance and security operations in communities affected by bandit attacks through the deployment of drones and improved road infrastructure.
Governor Dauda Lawal disclosed this on Monday during a media chat, saying poor access to some communities had continued to affect the speed at which security agencies respond to attacks.
Lawal identified the Tsafe-Yankuzo axis as one of the areas where difficult terrain and poor road conditions have created challenges for security personnel.
He said the state government was reconstructing the Tsafe-Yankuzo road to improve access and enable security agencies to reach affected communities faster during emergencies.
Beyond road construction, the governor said the government was expanding its use of drones to monitor locations that are difficult to access by road.
According to him, the surveillance equipment would help security agencies obtain timely information about emerging threats and improve their ability to respond to attacks.
He said the drones would be particularly useful during the rainy season, when poor road conditions make access to some communities more difficult.
Lawal acknowledged that security challenges persist in parts of Zamfara but said the frequency of killings had reduced compared with previous years.
He identified Tsafe Local Government Area as one of the areas still experiencing serious security concerns, particularly due to the activities of suspected bandit leader Ado Alero and his gang.
The governor said his administration was continuing to improve its use of technology for intelligence gathering, surveillance and early identification of security threats.
He added that combining better road access with technology-driven surveillance would help reduce delays in security interventions and strengthen the state’s response to attacks.
