The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command has arrested about 300 persons during raids on suspected criminal hideouts, shanties and uncompleted buildings across the territory.
The operation, conducted on Saturday, September 19, 2026, also led to the recovery of knives, a toy gun, cannabis and other illicit drugs, according to the command.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the operation was carried out at several locations identified as crime flashpoints as part of efforts to disrupt criminal activities and prevent potential security threats.
She said those arrested were being screened and profiled, adding that suspects found to have committed offences would be prosecuted, while persons against whom no case was established would be released.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, said the command would sustain intelligence-led raids and proactive policing operations at locations suspected to serve as hideouts for criminals.
Sanusi also warned residents, particularly youths, against illicit drug use, saying substance abuse could affect judgment and contribute to violent and criminal behaviour.
He advised individuals struggling with drug abuse to seek counselling and rehabilitation rather than allow substance use to expose them to criminal activities.
The commissioner also issued a warning to police officers involved in the operations, directing them to act professionally and within the law.
He specifically cautioned officers against using arrests and raids to extort money, intimidate or harass members of the public, stressing that any officer found engaging in such conduct would face disciplinary action.
The command urged residents to provide timely and credible information about suspicious activities and locations believed to harbour criminals.
