The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has called for a full investigation into the killing of its member, Ridwan Adeyemo, in Ibadan, saying the circumstances surrounding his death must be established.
Adeyemo, a commercial motorcyclist and member of the APC in Ward 06, Ibadan South-West Local Government Area, was reportedly attacked by armed men around Ita-Barika in the Agbokojo area of the city on Friday.
The party alleged that the attackers inflicted several machete wounds on Adeyemo before he was killed.
The APC State Secretary, Fatai Adesina, made the call on Saturday when he led members of the party’s State Executive Committee on a condolence visit to the deceased’s family.
Adesina said the party was informed that Adeyemo may have been targeted because of his political affiliation, adding that eyewitness accounts suggested the attackers questioned him about his choice of the APC over the APM before attacking him.
He said the allegation should be investigated by the appropriate authorities and urged the police to identify those responsible for the killing.
According to him, the APC has information that could assist investigators in identifying the suspects and determining the motive for the attack but would withhold such details for now to avoid compromising the investigation.
Adesina described the deceased as a peaceful and responsible person, noting that his death had left behind an elderly mother and a pregnant wife.
He also expressed concern over what he described as repeated threats allegedly directed at opposition members in parts of Oyo State.
The APC urged security agencies to intensify efforts to track down the suspects and investigate any individuals who may have sponsored or facilitated the attack.
The party said it would cooperate with the police in the investigation and provide support to Adeyemo’s family.
It also called on political actors in the state to shun violence and allow residents to participate freely in political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
