Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has summoned an emergency peace and security meeting following renewed hostilities between Aguleri and Umuoba Anam communities in Anambra East Local Government Area.
The communal clash reportedly led to deaths and injuries, prompting the governor to order immediate measures to prevent further escalation of the crisis.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, Soludo expressed concern over the development and called on both communities to immediately cease hostilities.
The governor scheduled the emergency meeting for Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at the Light House in Awka, where key stakeholders from the affected communities are expected to address the dispute.
Soludo urged the communities to exercise restraint and directed them to present their grievances, claims and concerns through their designated representatives at the meeting.
As part of efforts to restore calm, the governor also directed security agencies, including the police, to strengthen their presence in the affected communities.
He said the increased security deployment was necessary to protect lives and property and prevent further violence.
Soludo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to resolving communal disputes through dialogue and peaceful engagement, stressing the importance of maintaining security and stability across Anambra State.
